Please make sure that any residency you propose has a "hands-on" component.  SOAR will not fund assemblies or field trips that do not include interaction in the classroom with a visiting artist.  Contact your staff and parent representatives for help in planning and preparing your grant proposal.  Also email or call Gladys Veidemanis at 235-6106 for information and support.

Where Does the Money Go?

In general, SOAR funds up to 50% of the cost of a given residency, sometimes more if a school has no active parent organization to assist.  A major concern for SOAR is ensuring equal opportunity in all schools and for all ages and ability levels.

To receive funding, a given school must submit a detailed application, including an itemized budget, schedule of events, link with curricular and school goals and proposed evaluation. Upon completion of the residency, schools are asked also to fill out an evaluation form to be returned to Project SOAR and be later filed at the Central Administration Office for reference by other schools in the district.  At the May Liaison Committee meeting, teacher-and-parent representatives orally share experiences of the previous year, both positive and negative, for mutual benefit, thus ensuring that only proven artists are invited back in the district.
